It's been a while since I posted... Just been real busy... But I'll be checkin' more often
You couldn’t help but hear or read of the resent poll that showed that fears and worry about the economy are growing. I heard it in my car as I drove my kids to school and then read it when I signed on to the internet.
This recent poll about the economy is just more proof of how information influences thoughts, feelings and behavior… What you put in is what you get out.
Think about it…Over the last several months what has gone into the minds of the people that were polled??
That’s right! Negative news about the economy.
Of course – there are problems and anyone who would say that there aren’t would be way off.
The fact of the matter is that when you hear or read anything (whether it is positive or negative) your thoughts will be influenced which will lead to feelings about the thoughts and ultimately your behavior.
Again- I am not advocating simple “Positive Thinking” as the answer to all of our problems. I am also not suggesting that you ignore current conditions.
People that were polled expressed fears of losing their jobs. I am sure that there are also many business owners that worry about losing customers and clients too. So whether the person is the one with the job or the one who created the job – they feel the same worry and fear about the economy.
If someone hears news of the “massive lay offs” of course they are going to “fear” losing their job too. Wouldn’t that be expected?? If a business owner is hearing news of “slow retail sales” or “companies that are struggling” wouldn’t it be natural for them to worry that they’ll be next? The short answer is yes.
Now you may be thinking that I am advocating not paying attention to the news. You’d be wrong. After all how do you think I got to write this post today??
What matters is your response to the news and information that you are taking in. My response was to write this!
The person who hears of the massive lay-offs can do their best to help the company they work for be more efficient. They could do their best to ensure that the most important function of their job be carried out almost to perfection every day. They could be the one person in their company who doesn’t let the negative news slow them down but actually helps them speed up.
The business owner can respond in the same positive way with and added boost of optimism. After all, if their competitors respond poorly to the new economy they have the opportunity to increase their market share. The business owner can re-evaluate marketing, pricing and customer retention strategies and improve what can be improved.
Over- all the key to conquering fear and worry about the economy is to respond correctly and with a touch of optimism for what is possible for you. The question is… How can you be the rising tide that lifts all ships?
All the best!
