Datis - good points. There are all sorts of problems with facebook for sure. However, it is where everyone is at.   It seems to make sense that a better usage of time is for us to be where everyone is hanging out at, to direct them to…

Santanu commented on Sensei Nick's blog post 'CEO Blog: Is Facebook Really Good For Business'
Interesting post. The thing is, facebook is an established social media site, 500 million users. You can tap into your friends/students networks, post something on their wall about how great they did in class. People who normally would not care or…

The E-Myth's Important Lesson

One of the important lessons from the E-Myth is to treat your business like a franchise, and create a "Turn Key" operation. Turn Key means you just turn the key, and it goes! It's been awhile since I read that book, but that concept really stuck with me.  When I first started teaching martial arts, I realized that I have a special art, and I have a special way to teach it, that people like. Through the years, I was teaching everything, all classes - kids, adults, Tai Chi, San Shou, Cardio,…See More

Special Needs Martial Arts Classes - Do they work?

We are on the brink of potentially opening up a class geared more towards kids with special needs. Now that I have a staff of instructors and student leaders firmly in place, I feel that I may now have the resources to facilitate such a class. Mark J. Speranza has a whole methodology and program behind this, called Inclusion Advantage. Theoretically, it looks pretty good. However, I've never tried it, and I don't know anyone who has tried running a program based on his concepts. I'd be curious…See More

The Economy's Affect on my Martial Arts School

The current state of our economy (in the USA) has affected my martial arts school. I have felt the effects recently. I know many people tend to use the negative state of the economy as a crutch to lean on to blame for not-so-positive business results. I'm not one of those people. We have regular traffic of walk ins, referrals, and plenty from our website. People are coming to our door, and they are ready to buy. BUT Here is where I noticed a difference, and I have to attribute it to the…See More

We May Do Away with Paid-In-Fulls!

And even down payments!Say what???!! Are you kidding me?!?!Ok, so it's not a final decision yet, but at our staff meeting last night, it became a very tempting solution. Many in the industry will say to provide the option for Paying In Full. Heck even Fred Mertens philosophy was that Paying In Full was the IDEAL way to collect tuition, because, to quote him, "Everyone quits."What we've found is that it is important to make SMART usage of your Account Manager. Our Account Manager was finding that…See More

Running A Business is not for Everyone

My wife told me a long time ago that running a business is not for everyone. While you do get the satisfaction of working for yourself, there's a daunting amount of work that goes behind it. Some folks would rather not do all that work, and just work a steady job and get a paycheck. What I'm about to write might sound like a downer, I assure you, it's not. It's more me being reflective, so that I can counter it.At my core, I am finding that I really was not meant to be a business owner. I do not…See More

Great to hear sir, I will try to register the domain today, and then set it up so anyone who wants to contribute can do so directly, if you want to start prepping any literature you'd like to put up, that would be awesome. Let's keep in touch and push this forward on a weekly basis...
